Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to my husband Chris...the only father Madison has ever known...the father she deserved to have all along.
{Here is Chris on our wedding day presenting Madison with a necklace to symbolize our new family}

I was a single mom from before she was born until Chris became a permanent fixture in our lives.  Chris and I never pushed for a relationship between him and Madison...instead we let it develop naturally on its on...and it has blossomed.

Having never had a dad... I am not sure she knew what to expect...

I think he has surpassed any expectations her or I could possibly have for him.

They have nicknames for one another.  He calls her "Mad Dog" and she calls him "Topher".

They both like the same music...or should I say she has learned to enjoy the music he loves.

They both like the same movies...or should I say she is interested in any movie he is interested in.

They laugh together and joke around all of the time.

He will sit and patiently listen to her stories of middle school drama and about her Sims computer games.

She will sit and watch him play video games.

She always loves to tag along to the store when he goes.

She trusts him and confides in him.

They love one another.

I love my husband.  I love what an amazing father he has become to Madison.  I do not think they would be any closer or he would love her any more even if he was her biological father.  That is a real man.

These are the Days

I LOVE days I stay home from work.  This morning I got up, made Maddie breakfast, and drove her to school.  Then I turned back around and headed home.

I pretty much did nothing all day.  I did clean and sweep the kitchen, chatted with my friend Erin before her 20 week sonogram, attempted to make some rice (I cannot for the life of me get the rice cooker to work correctly) for tonight's dinner, watched a little TV, and caught up on my Google Reader.  I also emailed a company about designing my bakery website.

I had to pick her up early today as it was early release day at school.  She was happy to see me and shared she had a great day at school.  We headed to a late lunch at Chick-Fil-A.  We split the banana pudding milkshake...which was AMAZING.

Then I fell asleep while watching some reality TV.  I made my husband a yummy steak stir fry dinner.

Tomorrow is Friday...and then I will have two more days off of work.  My mom is coming into town this weekend to visit.  Life is good...especially on days when I get to stay home from work.

Thanksgiving Thankful Thursday

It is fitting that it is Thankful Thursday and Thanksgiving.

Yesterday I had my three honors classes and I gave them a journal entry to tell me what they were thankful for.  Here are some of the responses from my 6th grade students -

I am thankful for so many things I really do not need like me ipod and my Netbook.

I am thankful my parents have a vehicle to take me to school.

I am thankful for three meals a day and snacks in between.

I am thankful for my teachers who take time out of their day to teach me.

I am thankful for living in a big house. My mom was able to find us a big house.

I am thankful to my teachers who show me the way to another world.

I am thankful for being alive.

I thought they had some great things to say.  Here are a few things I am thankful for -

(1) My happy and healthy daughter and a fabulous husband

(2) My family and a friends

(3) A house we love in a safe neighborhood

(4) Living in a country where we have so many freedoms and choices

(5) Being able to shop online from the comfort of my couch for all sorts of fabulous things...things I need...and the things I think I need.

(6) Fountain soda diet cokes...it sounds crazy...but I love a nice fountain soda...especially a diet cherry one from Sonic.

(7) All of the fabulous days off and leave I get from my job as a teacher...including the 3 personal days I plan on taking in January to spend some time visiting my parents, sister, niece, and nephew.

(8) Memories and photographs of past people, events, and things.

Happy Thanksgiving
